Earache Home Remedies
There are a large number of home, herbal and homeopathic remedies which can be used in the treatment of earache, many of them being extremely simple cures using items from your kitchen or even your garden. A simple earache home remedy from your kitchen uses either lemon juice or onion juice. Simply wet a cotton swab with the juice, and apply it to the inside of your ear for an extremely effective infection fighter.
For an earache home remedy straight from your garden cut off a twig from a hickory tree. Suspend it over a hot stove, collecting the oil that runs out of it. Apply this oil to the inside of your ear for relief from earache. There are in fact many oils that can be used to treat earache, for example olive oil, sweet almond oil, St. John's Wort oil and garlic oil. The oils should be warmed to body temperature, and poured gently into the sore ear and the ear plugged with cotton wool to prevent the oil escaping.
There are many extremely effective homeopathic remedies for earache, which are wonderful treatments because they are so gentle and safe. Different homeopathic remedies are suitable for different types of earache, for example belladonna is recommended for earache with a rapid onset and throbbing pain accompanied by fever, whereas mercurius is commonly used for chronic ear infections. Homeopathic remedies are safe to use on children.
Aromatherapy can also be used to treat earache. Make a hot compress using a cloth soaked in hot water and either chamomile essential oil, lavender essential oil or a combination of the two. Place the compress gently over the sore ear to draw the inflammation outwards. Rosemary oil used in this way should also bring relief.
Diet can play a large part in the treatment, as well as prevention, of ear infections and earache. Make sure that you have a high intake of Vitamin C and sufficient zinc in your diet, as both of these are vital for the immune system to function properly. When you have an ear infection it may be wise to stay away from certain foods such as dairy products which are known to increase mucous and can aggravate ear infections.
Finally, you can try an exceptionally simple home earache remedy using a hair dryer. Simply blow warm air into the ear, making sure the dryer is on the lowest setting, and sufficiently far away from the ear so as not to burn it. Use the same back and forth movements that you would use to dry your hair, also to prevent accidentally burning your ear. This should help ease the pain of the earache quite a lot.
